Power Rankings: Week 3
What an even weirder Week 3. Only two teams managed to score over 100 points, and many teams saw a surprising amount of wasted points on their benches. But what's strangest of all, to me, is the way each winning team won this week. The games were perfectly (or imperfectly, depending on how you want to see it) matched up: the top scorer of the week (Spider Pig) beat the second top scorer of the week (THE Pain Train), the 3rd top scorer (choubacca) beat the 4th top scorer (RelientK), 5th (The Debinnator) beat 6th (The Terrible Titans T_T), 7th (odoyle RULES) beat 8th (Rainbow Warriors), and 9th (Green Nicks and Cam) beat 10th (errrdayimRussell'in). That's how evenly it was split. I don't even know what that's supposed to mean, but I thought it was interesting enough to point out. On to the rankings!
1. THE Pain Train (2-1) [1]
3. choubacca (1-2) [3]

Aaron gets a quality win against Laura's strong-but-somehow-still-winless team. I've been impressed at how he has really cashed in on his rookies this year. RGIII and Richardson have definitely proved their worths, and Aaron hasn't been shyly leaving them on the bench. He's still shaky at the WR spot, but his team still deserves a spot near the top.
5. Green Nicks and Cam (2-1) [2]

Not only did Cam have a horrendous game, the rest of Justina's team hardly showed up this week. Luckily, she was playing Eric, but it was still a poor showing. I think she has the most bipolar team in our league. She had a lot of points on the bench, but she made the right starts (except maybe Michael Bush), so it's really just a matter of her starters not performing as they should. Until her team can become more consistent (either consistently good or consistently bad), I'm just going to plop her right here in the middle.
7. Rainbow Warriors (1-2) [7]

Oh, Aaron Rodgers. After a second disappointing week, Jeff might be scratching his head wondering if Rodgers was really worth the first pick in the whole draft. While I'm not convinced Jeff's RBs are in a good state right now (I'm not sold on Alfred Morris as long as Mike Shanahan is his coach), I think his WRs have provided decent numbers, and Rodgers and Gronk are bound to return with respectable figures. So on paper, Jeff's team looks good, but he's always been in the bottom half of the league in scoring each week thus far. So really, his team statistically should be (0-3). Hence, he must dwell amongst the the unpowerfully ranked.
8. odoyle RULES (2-1) [9]

My team has not performed well enough either to deserve its (2-1) record. I definitely lucked out in beating Jeff this week. But I now have a little more hope in my team. Torrey Smith played like I've wanted him to (even though I benched him), and Mikel LeShoure provided a pleasant surprise and added depth at the RB spot. We'll see how things play out, I guess. I mean, a jump from 9 to 8 doesn't seem like much, but it's encouraging for me, at least.
9. errrdayimRussell'in (1-2) [8]

For the second time in three weeks, Eric ends up with the lowest score in the league for the week (Week 1 was the other time). Not even a stellar performance by Megatron could save him this week. Fun stat: his kicker scored more points (14) than his QB (Philip Rivers - 3.12), WR2 (Roddy White - 5.5), and WR3 (Vincent Jackson - 2.9) combined this week. I'm at a loss.
10. Terrible Titans T_T (1-2) [10]
The Titans weren't so terrible this week. But unfortunately for David, that didn't translate into more points for the most hated-on RB in fantasy football right now: Chris Johnson. Not that it would have mattered, since David wisely sat his sorry butt on the bench. Looking at David's team, I think he has all the potential pieces in place to propel his team to.. at least mediocrity. Out of the dumps. His WRs are actually pretty decent, his QB not bad, he has a top-tier TE, and what was supposed to be a monster DEF. Could his RB problems really be that big? Things will come around, David. I'm like.. 70% sure they will. Maximize on that waiver priority.
1. THE Pain Train (2-1) [1]
Yes, Gabs lost in the battle of the undefeated teams. It wasn't even that close of a game. But consider this: CJ Spiller got hurt in the first quarter of the game and still managed to score 11 points. Stafford also got hurt in his game and had to sit out. Would that have made up for the 40-point margin of victory? No. But I'm still convinced if you compare Gabs's team with any other team in the league right now, his team looks scarier. A hurt CJ Spiller and possibly hurt Stafford puts a small dent in his armor, but I think his team is still the strongest. It's the only team that's put up more than 100 points each week thus far.
2. Spider Pig (3-0) [5]

Jamaal Charles came out of nowhere (kind of) and propelled Luke's team to victory this week. His QB and WRs are still strong, but it's looking like his "pitiful" RBs haven't really held his team back from winning. He was smart to pick up Andre Brown, but not smart to leave him on the bench. But hey, that's fantasy.

4. RelientK (0-3) [4]

It's just been tough luck for Laura. It was encouraging to see her RBs get big games, but heartbreaking to see her still get a loss. And Romo.. 5 points?! C'mon, that's just sad. Too bad Big Ben has a bye next week. Word of advice for Laura: utilize your waiver priority.

6. The Debbinator (2-1) [6]

David proved that having two quality TEs does help, especially when one gets hurt. His RBs straight stunk, and still will stink as long as Forte is out. McGahee and Benson offer glimmers of hope, but I'm not fully sold on whether either can provide the consistent production that David needs (I cut Benson from my team, after all. Not that Shonn Greene is any better.. but at least he makes Chris Johnson look like.. well, Chris Johnson.). As long as Brees continues to play well and David has an WR or two play well each week, his team will be in good condition. They just haven't been consistent.

WEEK !THREE! PREDICTIONS
*i keep forgetting there's games on Thursday nights every week now..
errrdayimRussell'in vs Green Nicks and Cam
QB: so glad i was able to pick up Rivers.. thanks to whoever was kind enough to make the move and drop him. now don't get me wrong, i'm still going to ride Wilson but he's gonna need a couple more weeks to get use to the NFL game.. he led his team to a 27-7 victory last week.. yes he didn't do much but my boy's got so much swag. with this said.. i think Cam will tear it up on a prime time game tonight, at home, with the Panthers putting a schlacking on those Giants
(PICK--> Green Nicks and Cam)
WR: even though Megatron hasn't scored yet, it's just a matter of time. (if Stafford and his triple chinned self would quit throwing INT's) Roddy showed he's still the #1 WR in Atlanta even w/ the emergence of Julio Jones. and V-Jax is doing just fine.. just as a i predicted before the season. Chubs has great WR's but not having Nicks this game is a big loss (**is it time to change your team name again Justina??) ;) take him out of your line up if you read this analysis before the game tonight..
(PICK--> errrdayimRussell'in)
RB: all my RB match ups suck this week so i'm gonna have to hope for the best and that the Lawfirm and Doug Martin do me right.. Skittles has a tough match up this week vs GB and Clay Matthews. that guy wrecked so much havoc on Cutler that he forced Cutler to take out his frustrations on his 500lb left tackle... not so smart. he might sit on you and Cutler might feel the effect of what it's like if Justina were to sit on someone.. ahh ahah just kidding chubby. Reggie Bush went OFF last week.. will he repeat? no. but i think my RB's still won't do enough to win this head to head
(PICK--> Green Nicks and Cam)
TE: this is the week Witten finally gets going. his spleen has been costing him valuable chances and costing me valuable points.. SUCK IT UP guy. Pettigrew scored last week but this guy still has crappy hands.. and let's hope most of the passes go Calvin's way.
(PICK--> errrdayimRussell'in)
K: David Akers.. hands down. dude just keeps getting better with age.
(PICK--> Green Nicks and Cam)
DEF: i picked up Buffalo in hopes they can beat up on the awful Browns.. (let's just hope Trent Richardson doesn't do what he done did last week) but i'm going to go with Clay Matthews this week. i think he'll get another 2-3 sacks on my boy Russell.. just please don't hurt him too badly.. please. thanks
(PICK--> Green Nicks and Cam)
WINNER: Green Nicks and Cam
odoyle RULES vs Rainbow Warriors
QB: Matt Ryan and Rodgers both had sub par games last week.. it was a bit more surprising to see it from Rodgers though. he bounces back in a huge way this week (esp if he's able to get Jennings back) and as much as I hate to say it... beats Seattle and Russell. Ryan is going up against a decent Chargers D and will put up decent numbers but Rodgers is out for revenge
(PICK--> Rainbow Warriors)
WR: what a great pick up in LaFell for Tim... he's done much better than i think any of us expected so far.. with Smitty slightly hobbled and teams double covering him, I'd look for another big outing from LaFell tonight. getting Jennings back will also booster his WR. Patriots brought back Deion Branch.. bad omen for Brandon Lloyd? he hasn't impressed me yet.. never has.. always thought he was a one time wonder in Denver. or maybe he's too stupid like Chad Ochocinco and couldn't learn the plays/offense.. LOL that would be hilarious. Antonio Brown and DeSean are just #2s which are hit or miss.
(PICK--> odoyle RULES)
RB: McCoy and Murray have okay match ups this week while Jeff continues to ride Gore until he breaks down.. didn't I say week 3 was it? then he'll start to get hurt and put you in a difficult situation like he did w/ me last year.. and Jeff's other back is who? i've never heard of this guy.. maybe he's a rookie or maybe because he's in in Lucifer Shanahan's backfield and i don't care to know about this guy.. because of this..
(PICK--> odoyle RULES)
TE: Pitta vs Gronk. you'd think Gronk would be the obvious choice right? but not so fast.. his wing-man Hernandez got hurt and will be out for 1 month+ so this allows defenses to key in and double team Gronk.. sure this won't prevent him from getting his points but it sure makes it a lot more difficult (plus he has Ray Lewis lurking around back there) Pitta.. is what seems like the most targeted TE in the league so far.. great pick up Tim.. (I got him in another league and I wanted him here but you got to him first. poop)
(PICK--> odoyle RULES)
K: Sea-bass decides to pack on another 5 pounds over the course of the week and thus his range increases from 60 yd FGs to 70 yds. plus they're playing against Steelers so they're sure to stall more than a few times
(PICK--> Rainbow Warriors)
DEF: Houston's D will have a tough time containing Peyton but they'll be serviceable enough. plus i hate New England. the end
(PICK--> Rainbow Warriors)
WINNER: *tie* intangibles --> odoyle RULES
The Debbinator vs David Li
*David LI once again changes his name YET AGAIN and I had to look over again who is changing what.. it's very annoying.. therefore
QB: The Debbinator
WR: The Debbinator
RB: The Debbinator
TE: The Debbinator
K: The Debbinator
DEF: The Debbinator
WINNER: The Debbinator (i don't think any explanation is need. thanks and have a great day)
THE Pain Train vs Spider Pig
QB: how luke is 2-0 with his terrible team.. one can only wonder.. but he won't be undefeated after this week. Brady turns in a terrible performance against Baltimore.. history shows he's not very good when he plays them. Stafford comes back and throws 2 more INT's but he also throws 4 TD's .. all to Megatron. yes sir
(PICK--> THE Pain Train)
WR: Julio had a terrible showing last week but he's able to bounce back this week. old man Wayne looks young again with 2 incredible outings so far.. it's nice to have Luck isn't it? Austin and Wallace had nice showings but I don't think they will be consistent week to week. def not this week. Fitz, wouldn't it be nice to have Cam Newton throwing to you instead of Kevin Klobber or a Skeleton throwing to you? you would get to play alongside Smitty Smith too.. just a suggestion because your situation is (to quote Sir Charles Barkley: TUUUUUURRRRRRBIBULL) in Arizona
(PICK--> THE Pain Train)
RB: Jamaal Charles and Sproles are his starting RB's.. LOLLLLLLLLL i literally just looked at that and laughed out loud. like i said, i don't know how he's 2-0.. run DMC has a tough outing this week as he's had a tough outing so far this season but it's only a matter of time.. but IN THE MEAN TIME, CJ Spiller will tear up the Browns D. another 150yfs and 2 TD day is not out of the question
(PICK--> THE Pain Train)
TE: Finley has all the potential in the world but this guy has the worst hands in the world.. maybe he can get some of that super glue stuff they used in that movie The Replacements with Keanu Reeves.. you know.. the black guy who couldn't catch anything.. Finley reminds me of him. Vernon Davis is a great option in SF
(PICK--> Spider Pig)
K: what a heart breaker for Gostkowski.. down by 2 w/ a chance to kick a 42 yd FG to win in the final seconds.. (he had already had TWO 50+yd FGs earlier in the game.. he redeems himself this week)
(PICK--> THE Pain Train)
DEF: i would normally go w/ an awful Rams O against the stingy Bears' D but as I said earlier, Brady (no matter how "good" he is) struggles against the Ravens so i'm gonna go against odds and pick Baltimore
(PICK--> THE Pain Train)
WINNER: THE Pain Train
RelientK vs choubacca
QB: Romo is so erratic.. how do you do SO well in week 1 and then fall completely flat against a young D in Seattle during week 2?! good luck w/ that headache Laura. RGIII came back down to earth just a tad bit in week 2 when you look at how he did in week 1. will do enough this week to win this match up.
(PICK--> choubacca)
WR: Marshall did nothing last week.. which cost me the match-up in another league i'm in.. so i'm pissed at him for dropping the TD. Nelson will benefit with Jennings back and I don't even want to talk about the Chiefs and that terrible offense. Cruz will steal looks w/ Nicks out but that may also mean more double coverage. Thomas is clearly Peyton's favorite target when compared to Decker.. let's face it, Thomas is faster, bigger, stronger & black. (not hating, just stating the truth) he's the better player obviously and Amendola has been a nice surprise so far.
(PICK--> choubacca)
RB: Rice & MJD vs Foster & Trent this one is tough.. because they're all so good.. but I'm gonna go with Foster & Trent Richardson because they have more favorable match-ups
(PICK--> choubacca)
TE: Gates is back this week and his sub (former Carolina Panther, Dante Rosario) scored THREE TD's in his place last week.. WHAT?! Rivers clearly loves the TE check down.. expect Gates to get those numbers this week
(PICK--> choubacca)
K: Kaeding kicks 4 FG's this week as this will be a shoot out vs the Falcons..
(PICK--> choubacca)
DEF: whoaaa Laura FINALLY has a better match up in this final category.. lol doesn't help her much.. she always seems to pick up really bad players/match-ups every season.. seems like she is forever stuck in the bottom of our league each and every year.. sighh
(PICK--> RelientK)
WINNER: choubacca

Predictions: Week 3
Woohoo! 70% correct predictions so far. Right at my goal for the season. :) Maybe I'm a better predictor than I am a manager.
Tim | Luke | Eric | |
Last week's record | (4-1) | (3-2) | (3-2) |
Overall record | (7-3) | (5-5) | (5-5) |
Percentage | 0.70 | 0.50 | 0.50 |
odoyle RULES v. Rainbow Warriors
My team fell flat last week. But I'm banking on Jennings to give me increased production, Matt Ryan, LeSean McCoy, and DeMarco Murray to play like they should, and LaFell to be my X-factor (whatever that means). I'm also banking on Rodgers flopping again, Alfred Morris being overhyped, and Jeff's WRs disappointing him. Is that really so much to ask for?

Green Nicks and Cam v. errrdayimRussell'in
After last week's dominant showing, I don't think there's much that can stop Justina's team at this point. Justina clearly wins the QB, RB, and DEF battle. Eric has a slight advantage at TE, but WR and K are about even. (*edit: even with Hakeem Nicks out for Justina, I don't think that'll be enough to give Eric the win.)
Winner: Green Nicks and Cam
The Debbinator v. Terrible Titans T_T
Battle of the Davids. Ryan Matthews gives David Li a glimmer of hope, and against David Lin's RBs, what he has doesn't look all too bad right now. If Jonathan Stewart sits out on Thursday, that could put David Li in a pickle. David Li has some hope with his WRs and TE most likely out-playing David Lin's, and I'd even argue that at QB, Eli might end up putting up big numbers, especially if the Thursday night game turns into a shootout. This game is harder to predict than I thought it would be.. I want to see the upset happen.
Winner: Terrible Titans T_T
THE Pain Train v. Spider Pig
After this game, only one team will be undefeated in our league. Who will it be? Gabs's team just looks too good. Even if DeAngelo starts on Thursday and Luke plays him, I think Gabs's team is stronger in all positions except QB and maybe DEF. Pretty easy pick here for me.
Winner: THE Pain Train
RelientK v. choubacca
After this game, only one team will be entirely defeated (aka un-undefeated) in our league. Who will it be? As much as I want to cheer for Laura's team, I just don't see how her team is stronger than Aaron's. RGIII has been super impressive, and probably will continue to be, and Aaron's WRs are stronger than Laura's. Laura has more reliable RBs at this point, but who knows what Trent Richardson will pull off. Aaron wins the TE matchup as well. Sorry, Laura. Your time of easier matchups will come soon, I hope.
Winner: choubacca
My team fell flat last week. But I'm banking on Jennings to give me increased production, Matt Ryan, LeSean McCoy, and DeMarco Murray to play like they should, and LaFell to be my X-factor (whatever that means). I'm also banking on Rodgers flopping again, Alfred Morris being overhyped, and Jeff's WRs disappointing him. Is that really so much to ask for?

Power Rankings: Week 2
What a weird Week 2. Justina and Aaron rode their waves of superstar performances, and luckily Aaron wasted it on Justina instead of on someone else's poor team. Apart from a few random blow-ups, the league scoring was kind of.. boring. But maybe my attitude is tainted by my team's poor performance. Yeah, that's probably what it is.
1. THE Pain Train (2-0) [1]
2. Green Nicks and Cam (1-1) [7]
It appears that Justina willed her team to victory simply by changing her team name. All three players (Green, Nicks, and Cam) did well, and she got a huge boost from Reggie Bush, the only ray of hope on that pitiful Miami team. Don't expect Reggie to score that many points in one week ever again, though. There's little doubt in my mind that Cam will continue to put up big numbers and her WRs will be solid plays. Marshawn Lynch? TBD, but he has upside. Regardless, remember when I had Justina's team all the way at 2nd place during the preseason rankings? I think this week her team showed it deserved to be back up here. Even without her points from Reggie Bush, she would have beaten everyone else this week except Aaron. Kudos to that.
3. choubacca (0-2) [8]

Good choice starting RGIII over Vick. He's still looking like the next Cam Newton. Richardson was a total surprise (to me) this week. If he continues to play like that, look out. The Browns suck though, so that might hurt his numbers from week to week. But I think he'll be a good start for most weeks. Victor Cruz finally decided to catch some balls this week, too. If Aaron's team shows up to play, they can definitely bring his team to victory.. wait, no, sorry - I mean they can... score a lot of points. Yes, it was a tough loss. He almost pulled it out, but Justina's team was too ridiculous this week.
5. Spider Pig (2-0) [5]
Luke's team still has got the same story - solid team minus the RB position. Sproles does a decent job again this week, but Jamaal Charles was pitiful. But you might say that Luke had DeAngelo on the bench, so that should count for something. First off, bench points don't count towards the actual game. Secondly, I don't think DeAngelo will be scoring that many points on a regular basis, since he'll be splitting carries with Stewart and Cam. In spite of his lousy RB situation, Luke's team still scored a respectable amount of points this week, so I can't go hating on them too much. Yes, each week has only been a middle-of-the-road performance for Luke's team compared to the rest of the league (4th most points last week, 5th most points this week). But his record is still 2-0, and rightfully so, statistically. Props for that.
7. Rainbow Warriors (1-1) [4]

What happened to Aaron Rodgers? I guess we all have our bad days, but Jeff had little to work with sans production from the Green Bay QB. Gore and Gronk had good weeks. His WRs still don't look spectacular, though. Jeff will need Rodgers to have more consistency in order to keep his team competitive. And some better performances from the WRs would help, too.
8. errrdayimRussell'in (1-1) [10]

Eric finally came to his senses and picked up a more reliable QB. Not to say starting Russell Wilson would have changed the outcome of this week's matchup, but having Rivers definitely made his team score a scarier amount of points. His WRs played to their potential this week, and his RBs got the job done. Where was this team last week? In spite of an impressive performance, his team still has more to prove before it gets a bigger nudge up in the rankings. I'm still skeptical of what it can do.
9. odoyle RULES (1-1) [6]

Woe is my team. When I realized I couldn't beat Eric, my next goal was to not get the least amount of points this week. So much for that happening. My WRs need to step it up, or I need to find better WRs, in order for my team to be respectable. Otherwise, I'll be stuck in the bottom half for the whole season.
10. Terrible Titans T_T (1-1) [9]
I had already found this logo for David's previous name, so I'm just going to use it anyway because I like it. As I mentioned before, my intent was not to poo on David's team, I was just writing things the way I saw them. Anyways, Eli blows up for David this week, but even with a nice performance from the younger Manning, David still can't manage to put up a respectable amount of points (2nd to last in points scored). It's smart that David finally has Chris Johnson on the trading block. It'll be interesting to see who actually wants to pick him up (my guess: no one, unless it's used as collateral). Word of advice to David: if you still have him by Week 3, don't start him. Another word of advice: utilize your good waiver position to pick some people up. You don't need 2 defenses, you don't need Doug Baldwin, and you probably won't need Heyward-Bey, either. You almost won this week, though - if that makes you feel any better.
1. THE Pain Train (2-0) [1]
I can't bump Gabs's team down even though he didn't come near to scoring the most points this week. His team has been the most consistent of all the heavyweights. It is still all-around solid, and would not be one I would want to face on any given week. Yes, McFadden disappointed, but CJ Spiller is ridiculousness. Gabs's WRs are pretty sick as well. Reggie Wayne has been impressive with a new QB, Stevie Johnson has put up reliable numbers, and Julio Jones has shown he can put up big numbers.

4. RelientK (0-2) [3]

Laura still has some solid RBs, but her WRs failed her this week. Except Bowe, who got a couple of late TDs that didn't really matter at the end of his game. Will her WRs bounce back? I think so. She's also got some firepower on the bench to pull from if she needs. She just has to figure out who to start. If I were Laura, I wouldn't be too worried about the strength of my team - all the right pieces are there - I'd just be worried about why I have such terrible matchups.

6. The Debbinator (1-1) [2]

Wow, talk about being on two different ends of the spectrum. He loses Aaron Hernandez in a rough injury, Matt Forte goes out early in his game, as does Steve Smith. Looking like the injury bug might be biting David early this year. Gonzalez is an excellent backup for Hernandez, and I think David has some decent WRs to fill in the empty spaces left by #89 and an ever-slipping Wes Welker. Brees did ok, but the Saints are still struggling. I'm not sure if even Ben Tate will be a reliable every-week RB as long as Arian Foster stays healthy, though. McGahee provided a small glimmer of hope in this week's lineup, but it wasn't enough to compensate for the rest of David's team. His team gets a bump down this week due to injuries and uncertainties, but not too far down, because I think they can pretty easily bounce back.

Spider Pig's Thoughts on the 2012-2013 FF Season
- The NFL is a quarterback's league now... it pays to have a servicable QB/WR corp. RB's are not as dominant as before (see Shaun Alexander and LT's 20+ TD seasons)
- TE's are quickly rising in terms of % contribution to overall team points (no analytic support)
- If you're looking for a DEF, pick whoever is playing against Cleveland.
- If you own any offensive players on Cleveland, may God have mercy on your soul.
- Same applies if you own any of these players:
- Chris Johnson
- Fred Jackson
- Jamaal Charles or Peyton Hillis
- Anybody on the Arizona Cardinals
- Russell Wilson
- Be very careful trading with Aaron. Or Luke
- Matt Ryan will have the best fantasy season for QB's, Peyton will finish as a top 5 QB
- Is Justina insinuating that Nicks and Cam are potheads? I'm a bit lost
- The superbowl will feature the 49ers against the Texans. The 49ers will win.
- Every NFL fan in 90 seconds
Predictions:
Spider Pig over The Debbinator (+8)
odoyle RULES over errrdayI'mRUSSELIN (+20)
Green Nicks and Cam over choubacca (+3)
Rainbow Warriors over QuitPooingOnMeTim (+10)
RelientK over THE PAIN TRAIN (+0.1) - Game of the week
